Corlacky Wind Farm

Project: Corlacky Wind Farm
Location: Northern Ireland
Client: Vestas

Consisting of eleven V117-4.2 MW wind turbines, Global Wind Projects has successfully delivered its first crane project for Vestas at Corlacky Wind Farm in Northern Ireland.

RES, principal contractor, was appointed to manage the construction and operation of the wind farm on behalf of ERG SpA, with Vestas awarded the contract to supply, install, and commission the turbines. Subcontracted by Vestas, Global Wind Projects was tasked with delivering all lifting operation works. This included the provision of all cranes for the pre-installation and main installation, as well as the provision of lift supervisors and slinger / signallers for the project.

Ryan Burke, General Manager of Global Wind Projects, commented: “It’s great to see our first project for Vestas successfully completed and delivered to a high standard for all parties involved. Every project brings its challenges, but through strong collaboration we were able to overcome these without affecting progress on site.” He continued, “With Corlacky now complete, the cranes are remaining in Ireland, heading south to commence the Farranrory project in Co. Tipperary.”

Jason Black, Construction Site Manager for RES, commented: “Well done to Vestas including Flexwind and Global Wind Projects on the successful completion of the final turbine build – an average of 1 turbine a week, which, given the weather we’ve had throughout, is a great achievement. All teams have performed very well, and in my experience they are 2 of the top contractors I’ve seen working on Vestas projects.”

Ahmad El Khatib, Project Manager for Vestas, commented: “A heartwarming message from the principal contractor and a unique statement you should be very proud of, as we are proud of you – it has been definitely a good collaboration on Corlacky, and I will be looking forward to more projects with GWP. Many thanks again for all the hard work being put into achieving such a milestone against all the odds, including bad weather. Your dedication and teamwork took us across the finish line in good time.”
