Providing specialist wind turbine technicians and heavy-lift crane support, Global Wind Projects completed installation works and mechanical and electrical completion at Mill Rig Wind Farm, near Darvel in East Ayrshire, for Nordex Group.
Developed by OnPath Energy, the 33.4 MW wind farm comprises six Nordex N163/5.X wind turbines, each standing approx.. 200 metres to blade tip and featuring 80-metre blades. The project marked the first installation of the N163/5.X turbine model in the UK.
Global Wind Projects deployed around 40 personnel throughout the project, including 30 wind turbine technicians, five crane operators, a Project Manager, Site Manager, Site Agent and two HSE Advisors, supporting the safe and successful delivery of the works.
In collaboration with sister company, Global Crane Services, heavy-lift operations were delivered using LG1750 and LTM1650 cranes. Across the six turbines, the LG1750 carried out nine lifts per turbine, completing 54 component lifts, while the LTM1650 completed a further 12 component lifts, bringing the total to 66 component lifts across the project.
The full project was successfully delivered to programme, with installation and M&E completion carried out without injury.
