Celebrating Milestones: A Year in Review at Global Wind Projects

As we approach the end of 2023, we would like to thank our valued clients and trusted suppliers, as well as our parent company Global Port Services, and sister company, Global Crane Services, for their continued support during another exciting year for Global Wind Projects.

We began the year by continuing the installation of fifteen Nordex turbines at Harting Rig Wind Farm (Kype Muir Extension), the UK's first onshore wind farm with 200m-tall turbines, as well as the installation of twelve Nordex turbines at Cumberhead Wind Farm, both of which are now complete. Additionally, we successfully completed eight installations at Longhill Burn Wind Farm, which is the first Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform in the UK to date, offering one of the highest power ratings in onshore wind.

This was followed by twenty-two Nordex installations at Ardderroo Wind Farm in Galway and five Nordex installations at Sheskin Wind Farm in County Mayo. These projects marked our first venture in Ireland, where we have a strong pipeline of work scheduled until mid-2024, including the installation of twenty-nine Nordex turbines at Yellow River Wind Farm in County Offaly.

Having secured a contract with Tier 1 contractor Siemens Gamesa in January to provide cranes, installation personnel, and ground transport for pre-assembling 54 offshore wind turbine towers for the Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm, the project commenced in May and is now approaching the final stages with only eight towers remaining to be preassembled. The project team is delivering exceptional quality standards, with their outstanding health and safety performance also being recognised by the client.

Ryan Burke, General Manager of Global Wind Projects, expressed his gratitude by stating, “I’d like to start by thanking our hardworking office and on-site teams for their ongoing dedication. A big thanks also goes to our clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and broader partners for their continued support. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2024.”

He added,
“Having won our first offshore pre-assembly contract with Siemens Gamesa and our first Irish onshore wind installation contract for Nordex this year, 2023 has been a remarkable year for us, in what is only our third-year operating. 2024 is shaping up to be another significant year, with numerous investments and exciting projects across the UK and Ireland in the pipeline.”
