Employee Spotlight: Chloe Craig, Junior Project Manager

We're thrilled to introduce our inaugural Employee Spotlight feature, showcasing Chloe Craig, our talented Junior Project Manager! We take great pride in our exceptional team members, and Chloe is a great ambassador, whose expertise and passion define our commitment to excellence in the installation and maintenance of wind turbines across the UK and Ireland.

What’s your work history to date?

I began my career in the wind industry in April 2021 with my previous employer, Windhoist, contributing to the development of the Nysäter Wind Farm in Sweden. Later, in June 2022, I joined Global Wind Projects (GWP) as a Site Agent for their inaugural project, Harting Rig, situated in South Lanarkshire. Since then, I've been involved in various onshore wind farm projects, including Cumberhead and Longhill Burn. Currently, I'm working as a Junior Project Manager on an offshore project for the Neart na Gaoithe wind farm, which is under construction 15.5 km off the coast of Fife.

What’s your current role at GWP and can you describe a typical working day?

I'm currently a Junior Project Manager for Neart na Gaoithe wind farm, which involves overseeing our offshore pre-assembly project. A typical day for me revolves around... lots and lots of spreadsheets! My responsibilities include managing the project's commercial aspects, such as handling project extension costs, variation orders, and monthly payment applications. I ensure the client stays updated daily on the progress of our contracted work. Additionally, I track project forecast dates, budgets, and work completion times, prepare relevant documentation, and oversee general on-site administrative tasks like approving invoices and resource planning.

What’s your favourite, or the most exciting part of your job?

I love that my role allows me to meet and work with lots of different people. I also appreciate being part of a company that continually pushes me out of my comfort zone for my own professional growth and development. I also love the job satisfaction that comes with the final delivery of a successful project, where the team's effort and dedication to their work can be seen.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about your job?

I think people sometimes assume that I don't understand the day-to-day technical work on site. However, due to the high volume of reporting and tracking within my role, I'm required to have a thorough knowledge of the full scope of work within the contract.

Who or what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

I studied Politics at university and was unsure of what path to take afterwards. My dad was working at my previous employer and told me about a role which interested me, so I applied! I'm proud to work within the renewable energy industry, playing my part in mitigating the effects of climate change for future generations.

Can you provide details of a professional accomplishment at GWP that you are proud of?

Completing my NEBOSH General Certificate! I'm also currently working towards my PRINCE2 Practitioner Qualification in Project Management.
